Childcare

Aim

This is a full-time, one year course. The course is designed to develop the communications, intellectual, practical and caring skills essential for people working with children (0-6 years).

The course offers an excellent foundation for people new to the study of Child Care and for those with limited practical experience.

Entry requirements

Students will be expected to have passed the Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied examination (Distinction Level) or equivalent practical experience.

Course Duration

1 year (September - May). Monday - Friday with usual school holidays.

This course provides training for Child Care workers in a wide range of settings including nursery, infant or primary schools or classes, day nurseries, family centres private and voluntary areas.

Work experience is usually one day a week for 24 weeks.

Certification

Successful completion of the course will lead to a FETAC (Further Education and Training Awards Council) Level 5 Certificate.

Cost

A 50 euro administration cost. Participants will be expected to cover the cost of books and exam fees. Grants are also available to eligible participants. Art & Craft Kit will cost a50. First Aid Course will incur an additional fee.

Enrolment

A maximum of 24 participants will be taken on the course.

A short meeting will take place in May to give prospective participants the opportunity to come to the school, meet the teachers and have any questions answered in relation to the course. All prospective candidates will be interviewed in May, successful candidates will be offered a placement, you will be notified of your interview by post.

Please complete the enclosed application form and submit to the school secretary with the booking fee of €20. This fee is to cover administration costs.
