National Spring Clean
On the 7th April 2014 the sixth year Leaving Certificate Applied class of St Conleth's Community College took part in the National Spring Clean. They sowed grass seed and planted a purple Beech tree on the school grounds. A lot of hard work was done by the lads and I'm sure we will be appreciating the lovely green space they have created for years to come!!

On the 16th of January, St. Conleth’s CC students were treated to a visit from Humourfit theatre company. Humourfit is a health education drama programme, based in Limerick, which was established in 1989.
The Programme is approved by the Department of Education and all students really enjoyed their respective dramas, which are created around issues that affect young people in their school and social lives.
1st, 2nd and 3rd year students watched Humourfit perform “The Mighty Bully Brady” in which the bully and the victim are seen through the eyes of one actor. Name calling, isolation, social media, public humiliation and physical threats are all referred to in the 80 minute play. This play has received coverage from the Irish Times, amongst other media outlets.
5th, 6th and LCA students viewed a 70 minute drama entitled “The Value of Life”. This play tells the story of Joe O’Brien, who is having a bad day and its focus is mental health awareness. The aim of this play is to promote the idea that every individual has a future no matter how much of a burden they may feel to those around them.
All of the plays use the use medium of humour to lighten the serious mood but the message is not lost as written feedback from students included; “eye-opening”, “so funny”, “worth seeing”, “very true”, “interesting”, “made you think” and “got a message across”.

5th and 6th year art students along with Ms. Bolger and Ms. Cunnane headed off to see the ancient construction at Newgrange in County Meath. The students had to cross the river by pedestrian bridge and take a shuttle bus to visit the passage tomb at Newgrange. Particular interest was in various examples of abstract Neolithic rock art carved onto it which provide decoration. These carvings fit into ten categories, five of which are curvilinear (circles, spirals, arcs, serpentiniforms and dot-in-circles) and the other five of which are rectilinear (chevrons, lozenges, radials, parallel lines and offsets).
Ask any first or second year why 4 is a magic number?, how to predict patterns in coloured cards? and what number will be the result of a numbers game?
We were delighted to have faces from the past and present join together to celebrate St. Conleths Community College.
Other highlights included a visit to the twelfth century Notre Dame Cathedral, a Bateau Mouche trip along the Seine and typical French cuisine in a city centre French restaurant.
It was a wonderful opportunity for the St Conleth’s students to practice their French and a great time was had by all.
