First years went on their tour to Tayto Park in Meath. The students, accompanied by their teachers set off Tuesday 19th, for a fun filled, action packed day.
Highlights of the day included zip-lining, climbing wall, 5D cinema, air-race ride and of course the notorious “rotator” ride. Students also toured the Tayto crisp factory, which was educational as well as fun.
Many of the group who had visited the park before, remarked how many attractions had been added since their last visit. Including the colossal Cu Chulainn roller coaster, which although doesn't open until this summer, is a sight to behold in itself.
Students departed the park with their complimentary crisps, Tayto memorabilia from the shop as well as many memories to carry throughout their remaining school years with their new found friends.

Drop EverytHing and Read (DEAR)
The idea of DEAR is that at a set time every day for a week everyone stops what he or she is doing and reads for fifteen minutes. It is a shared experience and gets people talking about books and reading while conveying a strong message that the school believes in reading.
The students had a book fare today, organised by Ms. Talt, where they got to choose their book for DEAR week.

We beat Scoil Mhuire Clane to secure our place in the midlands final. On Monday 8th December we travelled to Portlaoise to play Scoil Mhuire once again but this time as favourites in the Midlands final. The first quarter we were down by 1 point. The second quarter saw an impressive fight back and by the half we led by 2 points. From there on it was plain sailing and we finished champions by an impressive margin of 11 points!. We look forward to defending our title next year!

The Web Summit: Where the Tech World Meet
After our return from mid-term break, students from Computer Science level 6 and the school’s Computer Programming club attended the Web Summit in Dublin.
One of those students, Christopher Morgan(2nd year), tells us about it.
"The Web Summit was a really interesting and fun school trip for us students in the Computer Programming club.
There were people speaking to us from all over the tech world including people who worked at Def Jam Records, Google and there was also a girl who worked from Bionicle too. It was very inspiring to listen to their stories.
My favourite part was when there was a person from a robotic engineering company who talked to us about the future of robotics and the direction that robotics is going."
irish cultural centre visit
On our first week back after Halloween midterm, the students from 2G attended a tour of the Islamic Cultural Centre in Clonskeagh, Dublin.
The students were accompanied around the Islamic centre and mosque by Dr. Ali Selim (Author of ‘Islam and Education in Ireland’). Dr. Selim explained the Islamic faith to the students while giving them the tour. He also answered the student’s questions about this place of worship.
Each and every student thoroughly enjoyed their visit, in particular the décor, artwork and photographs on display in the centre, which could not be imagined without seeing. The students are studying Islam as a part of their preparation for Junior Certificate Religious Education.

Library Trip
During the final 2 weeks of September, 1st year students attended a tour of Newbridge library with their English teacher and classmates.
The students visited the library in the morning, where they were shown around the library’s facilities by the library staff.
The students were given the opportunity to join the library free of charge and to use their cards to borrow books, CDs, magazines and DVDs if they so wished.
Everybody was delighted with the selection of books held by Newbridge library as well as surprised that they could use the spaces provided in the library for quiet study or homework.
Students can also access the internet on the library’s computers to research school projects or assignments, with their parent’s permission (also free of charge).
The tour was organised by the Home School Community Liason, Mrs. Maxwell, and this opportunity will be invaluable to the student’s independent learning, in particular to their English studies for the new Junior Cycle.
