Course content/career opportunities
This is a one year full time course designed for students wishing to pursue a career in the sports/leisure/recreation/ nutrition industry. This course combines both practical and theoretical elements. Students who qualify in this area can pursue the following careers:

  • Gym /Fitness Instructor,
  • Sports Retail Management,
  • Personal Trainer,
  • Sports Development Officer,
  • Recreation and Leisure Management.
Students can also achieve F.A.I. and G.A.A.accreditation certification. Graduates can apply to Institutes of
technology for follow on courses.


Entry requirements
A pass at Leaving certificate / leaving certificate applied(merit) or equivalent is required.


Course Duration
This is a full time one year course (September-May, Monday- Friday with usual school holidays).

  • Kinesiology
  • Occupational first-aid

  • Work experience
- Work Experience- All students are required to complete work experience, which must be organised every wednesday for 20 weeks in a coaching/exercise related venue.

Certification
FETAC LEVEL 5 in Sports and Recreation 5M5146


Higher education
FETAC graduates are eligible to apply to Institutes of technology and Universities for follow on courses.

Additional information
This course is subject to approval by the Department of Education.
This course is limited to 24 places
All applicants are required to attend a suitability interview and successful applicants are required to complete Garda Vetting forms.
A fitness assessment may be required.
