Portlaoise College 1

St Conleth’s Community College 0

Our U17s squad travelled to Portlaosie hoping to right the wrongs of their previous defeat to Cistercian College. Despite the freezing temperatures St Conleth’s were quick out of the blocks and played some excellent football in the first half.

More of the same came in the second half with numerous chances being created, but unfortunately nobody was able to find the back of the net.

Disaster struck after 60 minutes when completely against the run of play Portlaoise scored from a quick break.

The whole team rallied for the last 20 minutes but unfortunately it was not meant to be. Despite their brave efforts the game finished at 1-0.

Every member of the squad deserves credit for their contribution but special mention must be made of the powerful centre back partnership of Sam Fagan and Paul Ajiboye. Huge credit must also go to Conor Selkirk for stepping in to goals at short notice.
