Animal Science- Level 6

Animal Science – Level 6

Course Code - 6M5153

Qualification – QQI Level 6 Certificate in Animal Science.

Aim of this course

This one-year full time course is designed to build upon the knowledge and skills gained at Level 5. This course encourages you to advance from an animal carer to a supervisor, manager, or other leadership roles within the diverse animal care and science sectors. It is also suitable for anyone interested in pursuing higher-level study opportunities. The course offers both practical and theoretical studies on the science of animal health and behaviour, covering domestic, farm, and wild animals.

Animal Science – Testimonial

After completing the Level 5 Animal Care course at St. Conleth’s Community College, I decided to continue and complete the Level 6 Animal Science course, and I am so happy that I did. The course is a great experience, and I gained a lot of knowledge through it.

My favorite modules from the course included the wild animal management and the large animal husbandry modules. I loved the large animal husbandry module because we got the chance to go out and work with the likes of cows, sheep, and horses. Being able to get this hands-on experience and learning how to care for these animals was one of the best experiences for me personally. I also really enjoyed the wild animal management module, as I've always had a strong love for wild animals, so having this module alongside doing my work placement with wild animals made it even more interesting, as I was able to connect what I was learning in the class with what I was doing out on placement.

The tutors, Shauna and Mary, are kind, supportive and overall caring people who always encouraged us to do our absolute best, and they always made the classes easy to follow and fun. Although this course is very rewarding, it’s so important to remember that hard work and dedication are needed, so handing in your assignments and being punctual are important, but all of the hard work pays off in the end. I also met some great people in this course and some of my closest friends this year. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who is thinking about continuing to go further after the level 5 in Animal Care. It’s definitely a course that gives you an even amount of knowledge and practical experience that’s needed for going further or for work.
