Course/Programme Content
The main objective of this one year course is to give students the competitive edge in obtaining a third level college place through the production of a highly professional portfolio of work in Art, Craft and Design. Recent graduates have obtained places in many of the major colleges including NCAD, IADT, BCFE and GMIT.
"I found Art and Design a great confidence builder. When I signed up and began the course I was eager to learn but not sure about going on to college. Careers Class was an invaluable opportunity to research further education options, Communications class built confidence, and the computers class built general competency. While only the student can know which direction they want to take, there is no shortage of support form every member of staff from the Head Tutor to the caretaker in helping you along once you know what direction you’d like to go. The course itself is well thought out and considered so that students are exposed to many drawing, design, sculpture and print techniques. You are encouraged to observe all the time and keep note of your ideas. These basic concepts of observing are what my college tutors are trying to teach us right now! This course became the ideal bridge for me to progress into third level. It required effort I didn't know I had, late nights and hard work but in a supportive environment like we had I can look back and say it was worth it and I loved the short year there." Mary Byrne / Visual Communications IADT
'Last year i completed the Art/Craft and Design Portfolio Preparation course in St. Conleth's Community College and I achieved 546 out of 600 in my portfolio from GMIT Galway. The high score reflects the high standard of the teachers and staff. The support and guidence provided was second to none. The course gave my the confidence to go on to college and is a great introduction to how 3rd level education system works.'Conor Lane (Local Artist)
