Early Learning & Care

Course Code 5M21473

Aim
This is a 2 stage course :
  • Stage 1 will award a Level 5 in ELC
  • Stage 2 will award a Level 6 in ELC

The course is designed to develop the communications, intellectual, practical and caring skills essential for people working with children (0-6 years).



Entry requirements

Students will be expected to have passed the Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied examination (Distinction Level) or equivalent practical experience.

Course Duration

Stage 1 will award a Level 5 : 1 year (September - May). Monday - Friday with usual school holidays.
Stage 2 will award a Level 6: 2nd Year(September - May). Monday - Friday with usual school holidays.

  • Early Childhood Growth & Development
  • Curriculum, Play & Creative Studies
  • Holistic Care of Children 0-6 years
  • Children’s Rights, Legislation & Regulations
  • Understanding & Assisting Children with Additional Needs
  • Professional Practice Placement





Also mandatory on the course is Lámh Sign Language and First Aid courses
  • Work experience – 150 hours per each stage – this must be conducted with 2 age groups i.e. 0 to 2 years 8 months and 2.8 months to 6 years



This course provides training for Child Care workers in a wide range of settings including creches, pre-schools, ECCE settings, primary school (SNA), afterschool services

Certification

Successful completion of the course will lead to a FETAC (Further Education and Training Awards Council) Level 5 Certificate.

Cost

A 50 euro administration cost. Participants will be expected to cover the cost of books and exam fees. Grants are also available to eligible participants. Art & Craft Kit will cost a50. First Aid Course will incur an additional fee.

Enrolment

A maximum of 24 participants will be taken on the course.

A short meeting will take place in May to give prospective participants the opportunity to come to the school, meet the teachers and have any questions answered in relation to the course. All prospective candidates will be interviewed in May, successful candidates will be offered a placement, you will be notified of your interview by post.

Social Care Studies Cert. In Carlow IT. Level 6 Childcare FETAC
