Sports & Recreation News 2018/2019

Pictured is Daniel Hanks with his Sport, Recreation and Exercise PLC Tutor Colm Quirke. Daniel brought in his medals from the 2015 World Development Championships, where he won two Gold Medals in the Discus and Javelin events and a Silver in the Shot put. Some of his classmates can be seen working on their Olympic Lifting in the background.
On Thursday 18th October they completed their GAA Foundation Level Coaching Course as part of their Coaching Studies Module. Johnny Doyle & Tadhg Fennin from Kildare GAA excellently delivered the programme for the students.

On Tuesday 16th October they went to Baltinglass Outdoor Education Centre for one of their trips as part of their Adventure Activities Module. They completed a variety of activities which included tackling a high ropes course, zip lining, rock climbing, orienteering, kayaking & archery. It was an action packed day with plenty of challenges, team work, learning and fun.

This is a one year full time course designed for students wishing to pursue a career in the sports/leisure/recreation/ nutrition industry. This course combines both practical and theoretical elements. Students who qualify in this area can pursue the following careers:

A pass at Leaving certificate / leaving certificate applied(merit) or equivalent is required.
Course Duration
This is a full time one year course (September-May, Monday- Friday with usual school holidays).

Higher education
FETAC graduates are eligible to apply to Institutes of technology and Universities for follow on courses.
Additional information
This course is subject to approval by the Department of Education.
This course is limited to 24 places
All applicants are required to attend a suitability interview and successful applicants are required to complete Garda Vetting forms.
A fitness assessment may be required.
